Planet Youth Papakura Introduction

Planet Youth was first introduced to Papakura through Kuraconnect, in conjunction with key partners such as CLM Community Sport, NZ Drug Foundation, NZ Police, Papakura Marae and Touch NZ.

A partnership with PY International was signed in February 2021 and the Governance group was formed in April 2021 shortly after that the Governance group commenced training of the International prevention model (IPM).

PlanetYouth – Evidence based drug prevention

What is Planet Youth?

Planet Youth is an international prevention model proven to reduce substance use rates amongst young people and positively impact other life and health outcomes.  It was developed in Iceland and is currently being adapted and implemented in 34 countries and 200 communities globally.

Planet Youth addresses the risk and protective factors within young people's social and cultural environments.  This includes an emphasis on families, peer groups, the role of schools, and leisure time.

This transformational approach is data-driven, evidence-based, and adaptable to the unique needs and strengths of our community.  Bringing together research, policy, and practice to drive toward a common vision is core to the Planet Youth model.
